Apple is bringing significant wireless charging support to the iPhone 16 series with the iOS 26 operating system, which it is preparing to release in September. With the new update, the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max models can charge wirelessly at 25W with any Qi 2.2-compatible charger.
iPhone 16 will support the Qi 2.2 charging standard
This development completely changes the wireless charging experience for iPhone 16 owners, who previously could only reach 25W speeds with Apple’s own MagSafe charger. Before iOS 26, third-party Qi products only offered a maximum charging speed of 15W. This limitation is now lifted, allowing users to enjoy faster charging with any Qi 2.2-compatible device.
This new wireless charging support directly impacts the daily charging habits of iPhone 16 series users. Third-party manufacturers are also expected to release new Qi 2.2 chargers that support 25W.
This expands options for users who prefer not to be tied to the MagSafe ecosystem or prefer different accessories. Now, users will be able to fast-charge their devices from a wider range of products, rather than being limited to Apple products.
Apple’s move is also seen as a sign of the widespread adoption and standardization of wireless charging technology in the smartphone market. The company is taking a step toward aligning with industry standards while maintaining its own ecosystem.
The fact that the iPhone 16e was previously excluded from this update means that owners of that model will not be able to take advantage of this fast-charging feature. However, this development was welcomed by users of the main iPhone 16 series.
